Los mandatos de las operaciones de mantenimiento de la paz y la protección de los derechos fundamentales e el siglo XXI

In the present century the peacekeeping operations have been confronted with a number of new activities that have to be carried out in order to reestablish and achieve peace, security and to offer an adequate protection to the fundamental rights of the people living in the areas of an internal or international conflict. Among the activities that have assumed the peacekeeping operations we can emphasize the protection of certain security zones, the special protection of the population that has suffered from discrimination and abuses, the offering of security to the organizations that give humanitarian aid and the carrying out of activities like the deactivation of anti-personal-mines, the administration of territories and the assistance in electoral processes, etc.
Also, in order to assure the carrying out of these activities with success it is indispensable that the mandates that try to protect the fundamental rights of people incidentally, specifically and in general are established in a clear, straightforward way and in accordance with the norms of international Law that are applied in the International Community.
